this is after first round of sanding, 800 grit I think. I’m planning to do 1000 to bring it down some more before polishing. But this has done well to get rid of the MAJOR gunk in the paint.
looking very orange, but my test piece shows it should all come out nice and shiny red.
for reference, here’s a before

What’s that white stuff? Is that from today? We’re dry up north.

yup, taken minutes ago. Was just rain at my place (Littleton), but got a very wet inch here in the DTC.

Are you planning on re-clearing after you get it all sanded out?

It is, best I can tell, a single stage paint, so no actual clear.
but the roof is mostly a test for the rest of the car, as the roof is the worst paint.
eventually the roof will be wrapped. so all this effort may be a bit of a waste, althought he roof needs to be smooth before wrapping anyway.

It looks to me like the clear is peeling, which is what left it looking like that. Can’t tell for sure not seeing it in person though, so I’ll take your word on it.
Honestly, sanding it smooth, then clearing the whole thing would likely make it look brand new again.

my assumption at first was that a clear coat was peeling, but there’s no edge to it, it’s just a varying fade of colour.
